Steady Steps

(St. Louis, MO) – It’s not pretty, and it’s not even that angry, but Wichita State keeps winning games. For those of you that have ‘Shocker Fatigue’, WSU isn’t going away and they continued their steady march toward the NCAA tournament with a workmanlike win over Southern Illinois Saturday.

Nobody watching at Scottrade Center or on television came away thinking the Shockers are a dominant kind of team that should crush a weak team like SIU, but they did win and win for the 28th time this year and 174th time in the last six years.

Gregg Marshall’s team knows how to win, but for some reason we want them to scorch the earth. We’re unhappy when they win by 11 like they did on Saturday. The maddening thing is that in spurts, they do exactly that. During their 14-1 first half run, it looked like there were six Shockers on the floor.

After establishing the lead, they went back to being human again, and we don’t want human, we want Captain America or the Hulk.

Gregg Marshall

All Wichita State has done is have the best record in college basketball the last half decade. They’ve dominated the conference; they just dominate individual games like we wish they would.

Even Gregg Marshall wasn’t happy with their win over SIU, saying his team didn’t play particularly well.

Now the fun begins, with a talented Illinois State team waiting in the semifinals of Arch Madness. The potential a best-of-three final with 12th ranked Northern Iowa on Sunday could awaken the beast once and for all. WSU could own their third straight 30 win season and another high seed in the March Madness extravaganza.

I guess that’s good enough, isn’t it?
