Ohio Valley
Storming Through the Valley
(St. Louis, MO) – Murray State is making a bid to be the best team in TWO VALLEY conferences! The Ohio Valley Conference team has won seven straight games and during that streak they swatted aside four Missouri Valley Conference teams.
They did it evenly, winning two at home (Drake and Illinois State) and two on the road (Evansville & Southern Illinois). When you consider MVC teams are 9-2 against the other OVC members, this feat comes into clearer focus.
Overall the Racers have won eight straight against the Valley, having last lost to an MVC team in 2011. The win in Carbondale was their first since 1990.
Four of Head Coach Steve Prohm’s players are averaging double figures in scoring. Pre-season ‘Player of the Year’ Cameron Payne leads the way with a 19.1 average. Jarvis Williams (15.5), T.J. Sapp (10.3) and Jeffery Moss (10.0) are turning the trick.
The Racers wrap up non-conference play when they host Alabama A&M (12/30) and then begin OVC play with three straight road games.
Adding to success on the court, the Racers have a commitment from former Texas guard Demarcus Croaker. Racer fans will remember that Croaker was a top 150 prospect coming out of high school and originally commited to Murray State, but ended up at Texas where he played in 33 games as a freshman and was named to the Big 12’s Commissioner’s Honor Roll.
Croaker will be a junior next season.
