Successful MTE Season Continues

Evansville Undefeated & Sycamores Sweep

(St. Louis, MO) – The Valley’s successful MTE season continues.  Indiana State swept the Ball Dawgs Classic for the Missouri Valley Conference’s third MTE championship and Evansville and Illinois Chicago have started successfully.

Northern Iowa broke through against a power conference team and the MVC is 18-10 during this week of MTE games. The Valley is improving its national resume.

Successful MTE Season – Another Championship

Indiana State swept its three games at the Las Vegas-based Ball Dawgs Classic. The Sycamores (5-1) edged Toledo by two-points while scoring a season low 76 points. Four of Indiana State’s five starters scored at least eleven points and Jayson Kent recorded his second double-double (17 points, eleven rebounds) of the season. Isaiah Swope reached the twenty-point mark for the third time and for the second straight game.

Bradley and Missouri State won earlier MTE championships and Drake and Southern Illinois each won two of three games in their respective MTEs.

Successful MTE Season – Evansville & UIC Start Well

Evansville is still undefeated. The Purple Aces (5-0) opened the Coke Zero Sugar Classic with a come-from-behind victory over the hosting Chattanooga Mocs. UE trailed Chattanooga by twenty points with 11:40 remaining and stormed back to force overtime. David Ragland’s team dominated the extra session by a score 15 to seven, winning the contest 85-77.

Ben Humrichous led the Aces with 28 points as Evansville matched its entire win total from last season. UE faces Southeast Missouri for the second time this season Saturday at 1 pm.

Surprising Illinois Chicago (4-1) was an easy winner over Middle Tennessee. 70-40 was the final as Steven Clay came off the bench to score 18 points and Toby Okani scored 13 and hauled in eight rebounds. Sophomore C.J. Jones scored eleven and led the team with five assists.

The Flames face undefeated George Washington (5-0) in the Baha Mar Hoops Nassau Championship’s second round at 6 pm.

Finally – Successful MTE Season

During Northern Iowa’s involvement in the Battle 4 Atlantis, the Panthers played three outstanding first halves and two disasterous second halves. UNI led North Carolina and Texas Tech in back-to-back first halves only to be overwhelmed in those second stanzas and dropped their first two games.

During Friday’s third game in the Bahamas, UNI played a dominating first half against Stanford and maintained the excellence in the game’s second half. 73-51 was the final. Ben Jacobson’s team (2-3) earns ‘power conference’ wins with regularity. ‘Jake and the Giant Killers’ have done it again.

While Bowen Born continues to play injured and continues his shooting slump, the Panthers received big production from Jacob Hutson (12 points), Nate Heise (15) and Tytan Anderson (10 points & eight rebounds).

Belmont Struggles

Belmont’s defensive struggles continued Friday. The Bruins dropped a 93 to 84 decision to Monmouth. Cade Tyson (22), Ja’Kobi Gillespie (20 and six assists) and Jace Willingham (21) sparked the offense.

Casey Alexander’s team faces Pennsylvania at 3:30 on ESPN+.
