Taylor Ties a Record

Tied for Most Weekly Awards

(St. Louis, MO) – Austin Peay’s Terry Taylor has tied an Ohio Valley Conference record. The 6’5 junior earned his eighth ‘Player of the Week‘ award tying the record set by Kenneth Faried. Northern Iowa’s A.J. Green is trying to catch up to Taylor. The 6’4 sophomore picked his fourth MVC weekly award.

Ohio Valley Conference

Taylor averaged 24.5 points and 18.5 rebounds during the Governors’ (16-9, 10-2) two games. The league’s preseason ‘Player of the Year‘ recently eclipsed the 1,700 point and 800 rebound plateaus. He is one of six (the only junior) current Division 1 players to reach those two levels at the same time.

Kayne Henry is climbing into contention for ‘Newcomer of the Year‘. The Jacksonville State (10-15, 5-7) forward earned his third weekly ‘Newcomer‘ award over the past four weeks. The 6’7 junior averaged 17.5 points and 8.5 rebounds. Stewart has won five weekly awards.

For the first time in six weeks an Austin Peay player has not won or shared the ‘Freshman of the Week‘ award. Eastern Kentucky’s Michael Moreno crashed the Governor party. Moreno averaged 17.5 points and nine rebounds while the Colonels (12-13, 9-3) split two road games.

Missouri Valley Conference

Green averaged 26.5 points, including a 34-point performance Sunday against Drake. He has topped the 20-point mark 11 times and twice has topped 30. During Valley play, this week’s ‘Player of the Week‘ is averaging a league-leading 23.3 points per game and 3.8 triples per contest. Green in second in free-throw percentage, third in three-point percentage and second in minutes played.

The man leading Green in minutes played is this week’s ‘Newcomer of the Week‘. Southern Illinois’ Marcus Domask hit the game-winning shot against Missouri State and averaged 20 points during the Salukis’ two games. Domask has won three ‘Newcomer‘ awards, including two of the last three.
