Missouri Valley
The Ballots Are Completed
Austin Peay Teammates Are Excelling
(St. Louis, MO) – The ballots are completed and the vote won’t be taken for over a month. Two of the Ohio Valley Conference postseason trophies can be engraved now. In the Missouri Valley Conference, the engraver will have to wait a little longer.
The weekly awards reveal these truths.
Ohio Valley Conference
He was the preseason ‘Player of the Year’ and now is a seven-time ‘Player of the Week’. Terry Taylor averaged over 25 points and 15 rebounds during Austin Peay’s sweep of Belmont and Tennessee State. The 6’5 junior leads the OVC and is sixth nationally in scoring (23.0) and while leading the league in rebounding (9.8), he lands 28th on the national list.
Taylor’s freshman teammate Jordyn Adams is just a dominant when it comes to taking home the OVC’s ‘Freshman of the Week’ awards. The 6’3 guard picked up his sixth weekly award by scoring 61 points in the Governors’ two victories. Adams leads all OVC freshmen in scoring and is fourth nationally. Teammate Carlos Paez (three weekly awards) is Adams’ only competition for the annual award.
The OVC handed out ‘Co-Newcomers of the Week’ honors. Jacksonville State’s Kayne Henry earned his second straight newcomer award. The 6’7 wing averaged 15 points and 12 rebounds while the Gamecocks split their two conference games. He has posted three double-doubles in the last four games.
Eastern Illinois’ George Dixon earned a piece of his third ‘newcomer’ award. EIU swept their two games while Dixon averaged 15.5 points and ten rebounds. Dixon’s seven double-doubles are the league’s second highest totals and the most by any newcomer. The Panthers have won four straight games and Dixon is second to Taylor in the league’s rebounding race (8.7).

Ironically the Valley’s preseason POY, Cameron Krutwig, earned just his second ‘Player of the Week‘ award. The Loyola junior was outstanding, posting two double-doubles and just missed a triple double. His 13-point, 12-rebound, nine assist performance led the Ramblers to a home win over Indiana State and his 19-point and career high 14-rebound effort nearly allowed LUC to steal an overtime win at Northern Iowa.
Southern Illinois is the Valley’s surprise team and freshman Marcus Domask is a key reason for the Salukis’ competitive play. While SIU was sweeping their two games, Domask was amassing 30 points, fifteen rebounds and eight assists. The 6’6 Wisconsin native earned his second ‘Newcomer of the Week‘ award while providing some late game heroics in SIU’s rare road win at Illinois State.
While the ballots are completed for two of the OVC’s three awards, the Valley’s season-ending trophies are far from decided.
