Great Lakes Valley
The Biggest Battle In Division 2
(St. Louis, MO) – When the best basketball conference in Division 2 meets for its post-season tournament it means fireworks and an alley fight. The Great Lakes Valley Conference gathers in Evansville this week to decide top dog status in the Big Ten of D2.
Defending national champion Drury will have its hands full with a number of top teams. All year long the GLVC has had multiple teams in the top 25 rankings. Drury (24-2 & 16-2) won the West and UW Parkside (22-5 & 15-3) and Indianapolis (23-3 & 15-3) tied for East title.
A great match-up in the quarterfinals finds Southern Indiana (22-5 & 13-5) and Lewis (21-5 & 13-5). Southern Indiana lost at Lewis earlier in the season and are led by the nation’s leading rebounder and co-all GLVC Player of the Year Aaron Nelson. In the NCAA’s latest regional rankings, Southern Indiana is fourth in the Midwest and Lewis is eighth. They are seeded fourth and fifth in the GLVC event. Drury is number one.
The Evansville portion of the tournament starts Friday and ends Sunday afternoon. Four teams (Illinois Springfield, Southern Indiana, Bellarmine and Missouri-St. Louis) had to earn their trip to Indiana with wins last Sunday.
Every game of both the men’s and women’s tournaments can be watched on America One. Valley Hoops Insider contributor Jim Powers will be behind the microphone for every game!
