Third Week Women’s Stars

Some New Names Popping Up

(Chicago, IL) – Third week women’s stars in the Ohio Valley and Missouri Valley Conferences include some brand new names, but one player continues to outshine the rest. Both leagues are knee deep in non-conference play and slowly finding the rotations that are working.

These third week women’s stars already know what is working.

OVC Third Week Women’s Stars

K.K. Rodriguez continues to dominate the OVC scoring race. The 5’6 guard posted another prolific scoring performance. Rodriguez racked up national best 61 points during two Cougar games. The grad student is the nation’s tenth leading scorer (23.0 ppg) and is claiming her second straight ‘Player of the Week‘ award.

Tennessee State guard Sanaa’ St. Andre is another productive guard. The 5’8 senior scored a career high 19 points in one game and averaged 13.5 points and 3.5 rebounds as the Lady Tigers (5-2) split a pair of games. This week’s ‘Newcomer of the Week‘ is a Kansas City transfer and is averaging 9.8 points per game.

There are two OVC ‘Freshmen of the Week‘.  Southeast Missouri’s Daejah Richmond and UT Martin’s Norah Clark are sharing the honor. During the Skyhawks only game Clark scored 15 points and Richmond tallied 16 points during the Redhawks encounter with Missouri State.

MVC Third Week Women’s Stars

Southern Illinois’ Laniah Randle became the first non-Iowa-based player to claim the Valley’s ‘Player of the Week‘ award. While the Salukis were winning a pair of games, Randle was pouring on the offense. The junior averaged 24.7 points and 8.3 rebounds. She follows Drake’s Grace Berg and Northern Iowa’s Grace Boffeli as a weekly winner.

Indiana State’s Kiley Bess became the first non-Illinois-based player to claim the Valley’s ‘Newcomer of the Week‘ award. Bess is Indiana State’s leading scorer (12.2 ppg) and ranks among the MVC’s top twenty in several statistical categories. Bradley’s Kaylen Nelson and Illinois Chicago’s Makiyah Williams earned the season’s first two weekly nods.

Evansville’s Maggie Hartwig became the first Valley player not named Jaylin Banks (Belmont) to claim the Valley’s ‘Freshman of the Week‘ award. Hartwig recorded a double-double (18 points & 15 rebounds) during the Purple Aces’ first win of the season.

The men’s awards were announced earlier.

Flooding, lightning strikes, etc. have cost @RacersHoops two home games. Had to play 'neutral site' tonight instead of at home and Wednesday's goes from home to away. Tough break for the Racers, and the whole area has been hit with difficulties. #FatherHarry

Murray State's scheduled home game Wednesday vs. Southern Illinois being moved to Banterra Center in Carbondale. #ValleyHoops

Gigantic game for @BradleyUMBB today in Des Moines. If they have a chance to catch @DrakeBulldogsMB, they have to win today. The Bulldogs can basically win the title today. @BustingBrackets breaks it all down. #FatherHarry https://bit.ly/3EGiVgi

Not rooting for any particular @ValleyHoops, but chaos is always fun. If things break certain ways, after today there could be a six-way tie for fifth place.
