UNI’s Ben Jacobson and his backcourt @ MVC Media Day

Panthers Ready to Contend

(St. Louis, MO) – UNI’s Ben Jacobson is the ‘dean of Missouri Valley Coaches’ and has a challenge before him this season. While Northern Iowa lost ‘Player of the Year’ A.J. Green to the NBA they are loaded and talented in the backcourt.

Bowen Born and Nate Heise begin their third seasons as regulars in the UNI backcourt and will be to focal points of the Panther attack. Sophomore lefty Tytan Anderson gained valuable experience last season and is an electric type of player.

The critical question surrounding the Panther program is about the health of center Austin Phyfe. Previous redshirts Landon Wolf, Michael Duax and Chase Courbat will need to provide some instant contributions.

We spoke with ‘Coach Jake’ and those three guards at the MVC media day.

James Betz and Cole Henry are experienced front court players that Jacobson will look to if Phyfe is limited or unable to go.

UNI opens the season with a home game against Wartburg and then travel to Richmond on November 11. While there will be adjustments, UNI’s Ben Jacobson will have a team that contends for the Valley’s top spot.

Do Good

Flooding, lightning strikes, etc. have cost @RacersHoops two home games. Had to play 'neutral site' tonight instead of at home and Wednesday's goes from home to away. Tough break for the Racers, and the whole area has been hit with difficulties. #FatherHarry

Josh Betts @BettsOnSports

Murray State's scheduled home game Wednesday vs. Southern Illinois being moved to Banterra Center in Carbondale. #ValleyHoops

Gigantic game for @BradleyUMBB today in Des Moines. If they have a chance to catch @DrakeBulldogsMB, they have to win today. The Bulldogs can basically win the title today. @BustingBrackets breaks it all down. #FatherHarry https://bit.ly/3EGiVgi

Not rooting for any particular @ValleyHoops, but chaos is always fun. If things break certain ways, after today there could be a six-way tie for fifth place.
