USBWA All District People of Interest

(St. Louis, MO – As we roll into post-season basketball tournaments, it is also post-season award season. Because of the scope of our site, we turn our attention to players from the Missouri Valley and Ohio Valley Conferences, as well as players and coaches with ties to those leagues or our immediate area.

The United States Basketball Writers Association (I am a member) released their All-District teams this week and some people that fit our criteria made the lists. There are nine different districts designated by the USBWA, and they are broken down by states they have linked together.

Evan Brads – Belmont University – All-District

Bradds is the only player from the MVC or OVC to be named to an all-district team. Bradds was so honored as a District IV all-district team member. The OVC’s two-time ‘Player of the Year’ was the league’s second leading scorer (20.8 ppg), fourth in rebounding (8.6) and third in field goal percentage (.641) for the regular season champion Bruins.

Former Coaches

Matt Painter of Purdue (District V) and SMU’s Tim Jankovich (District VII) were named as their respective district’s coach of the year. Painter, who formerly coached at Southern Illinois, has led the Boilermakers to a 25-6 record and lead the Big Ten with a record of 14-4. Jankovich coached at Illinois State and this year took over the head coaching reins from Larry Brown and has led the Mustangs to an American Athletic Conference record of 17-1. They own a season record of 27-4.

Jayson Tatum (Chaminade High School) was named to District III’s all-district team. The freshman phenom is the second leading scorer (16.0 ppg), rebounder (7.3) and plays the third most minutes (32.3) for the Duke Blue Devils.

Malcolm Hill (Belleville East High School) was named all-district in District V. Hill is closing out an illustrious career for Illinois. This season he is averaging over 17 points, five rebounds and three assists per game.

Transfer

Marcus Marshall found a favorable situation in Nevada. The former Missouri State Bear leads Nevada in scoring (19.7) and was named to the District VIII all-district team. The Wolfpack lead the Mountain West Conference with a league mark of 14-4.
