Missouri Valley
Valpo – Level Headed Approach
Lottich Taking It One Step at a Time
(St. Louis, MO) – Valparaiso has improved in each of its Missouri Valley seasons, but they are still stuck in the Thursday night, ‘play in round’. Most 9-9 teams wouldn’t be seeded ninth, but Valley tie-breaking methods placed them here.
Just one Thursday night competitor has made it to the tournament’s semifinals, but coach Matt Lottich isn’t worried about the odds of winning the Arch Madness trophy yet. He is focused on Evansville. While the Crusaders swept the Purple Aces, both games were decided by two points. Lottich says they’re taking the tournament one game at a time.
Developing the Program
While Lottich isn’t looking beyond Thursday night’s game, he is excited that the program is growing. Attendance is up and so are the win totals. From six Valley wins in the team’s first season and seven last year, the Crusaders have reached .500 for the first time. Lottich says he likes his team now, and his team in the future.
Game time is set for 8:30 pm.
Valpo’s all-conference guard Javon Freeman-Liberty (mono) has been cleared to play, but Nick Robinson (back) will not. Evansville’s leading scorer, DeAndre Williams was not at the team’s shoot around today.
Prior to losing the season’s final game (without Freeman-Liberty) the Crusaders had won four of five games and their only loss was a road, overtime decision at Drake.
A win Thursday would ensure an above .500 overall record.
Do Good
