Watching the Best In D2

(St. Lous, MO) – As I sit down on this Saturday morning to watch a little college basketball, I find there is a Division 2 game on television! The good news is the game features my alma mater and the defending champion Central Missouri. The bad news is the game doesn’t include a Great Lakes Valley Conference team.

The best Division 2 basketball can be seen in the GLVC.

Don’t get me wrong. I love the Mules for all kinds of reasons. I graduated from UCM, two of my children have attended the Warrensburg, Missouri campus. UCM plays in the Mid American Athletic Conference is where I started by broadcasting career. One of my favorite basketball coaches in the entire country is Brad Soderberg at Lindenwood in that same league.

But, the best Division 2 basketball can be seen in the GLVC.

Number-1-300x300You want numbers? I’ve got numbers. Five GLVC teams are receiving votes in the latest NCAA poll. Six league teams are in the talismanred.com top 29 computer rankings.

Currently the GLVC is ranked 6th in talismanred’s conference numbers. The MIAA is fifth but largely that MIAA ranking is pulled higher by an extremely high number being posted by the Mules. Only two other teams in the MIAA are ranked in the NCAA’s top 42.

The Northeast 10 conference is the top ranked league in talismanred’s computer, but only one team in that league is ranked in the NCAA’s poll. When you combine those two ranking systems, the GLVC comes out on top.

You want championships? Central Missouri won it last year and as an alum, I was proud, but the GLVC won two of the previous three titles. Bellarmine raised the banner in 2011 and Drury turned the trick in 2013.

I announce games for Missouri-St. Louis of the GLVC. The Tritons are 8-0 and can’t scratch any of those top level rankings. That’s how tough the GLVC is.

Where can you see the best Division 2 basketball? The GLVC.
