Wichita State Gets Dayton
(St. Louis, MO) – After all the controversy about Wichita State’s seeding in the NCAA Tournament, the course before Gregg Marshall’s team is set, and it is not an easy trek.
As a ten seed, the 20th ranked Shockers’ first dance is a Friday Midwest regional opener with seventh seeded Dayton (24-7). The Flyers finished the season with two straight losses, after winning nine consecutive games to win the Atlantic Ten regular season title.
Should Wichita State defeat the Flyers, they have a potential second round re-connection with the Kentucky Wildcats.
The Shockers (30-4) finished the season with 15 straight triumphs, including the Arch Madness Tournament title. Wichita State is becoming a fixture in the national tournament, having now qualified six straight seasons. WSU has won nine NCAA Tournament games over the last four seasons.
WSU’s Marshall and Dayton’s Archie Miller are two of the hottest coaches in college basketball. Miller was named A-10 ‘Coach of the Year’ and four players were named to various all-league honors. Marshall has won 454 games in 19 seasons and Miller (139 wins in six seasons) has guided the Flyers to four straight national tournament appearances.
