Year Two for Amy Eagan

Lindenwood’s Women’s Team

(St. Louis, MO) – Amy Eagan is a proven winner, but her first season at Lindenwood didn’t follow that winning pattern. Year two should be significantly better, but Eagan doesn’t see the first season as a failure.

The former Drury University head coach believes last season helped her and her players learn about Division 1 play. Eagan’s team lost eleven games by single digits and finished with just seven overall victories.

The Lions return their top four scorers and contributors including all-Ohio Valley Conference second-teamer Ellie Brueggemann. A deadly free throw shooter, the 5’11 Brueggemann averaged over 13 points per game and buried 81 three-pointers.

Justis Odom (9.2 ppg), Alyssa Nielsen (8.2), Mykayla Cunningham (7.6) and Mya Skoff (6.6) give Eagan four other reliable scorers. Only Odom is a senior and year two for the Lions should be a lot better.

Newcomers Mariah Stewart (Louisiana-Lafayette), Brooke Coffey (Illinois State) and Grace Wernli (Abilene Christian) are veterans with significant D1 experience. Coffey and Wernli are St. Louis area natives that ‘came home’ to play at Lindenwood.

Other year two additions include good rebounding junior college transfer Tiana Winn and freshman Kiara Smith.

During our conversation, Eagan discussed her excitement with being at Lindenwood, the lessons she learned last year and described her players to us.

Our interview with men’s coach Kyle Gerdeman can seen here. The Lions open the season on November 6 at Kansas.

An emotional win for UNI. 36 hours ago, they learned their teammate, one of their leaders, Grace Boffeli, suffered a season-ending ACL tear.
